Software update policy

During the Beta phase, Flowstate has no backwards compatibility policy, as development focuses on updating early and often to improve the product. Despite taking steps to resolve outstanding issues before the Beta phase, it's still likely that updates during the Beta phases require changes to existing solutions. This document explains how these updates are delivered, and how to get help when you encounter problems.

Schedule

Updates are normally delivered weekly on Mondays between 17:00 and 20:00 UTC. Because our updates are overseen by our distributed release engineering team, we occasionally need to change the update window to adapt to their availability.

The effects of an update depend on how you use Flowstate and exactly what is updated:

  • When using a simulation in the cloud, you first notice the update when you start or restart your solution from flowstate.intrinsic.ai. Solutions running in the cloud don't receive updates, so you might need to return to the portal and select [Start solution] to update Flowstate.

  • When using hardware, you notice the update when it is applied during the update window. Solutions running on hardware might be automatically stopped during the update window to prevent unexpected problems.

  • When Intrinsic updates the operating system, devices reboot during the update window. If the device is not powered during the update window, it applies the update and reboots shortly after it is next turned on.

The effects of a specific update are documented in the release notes.

Updates to the development environment

Intrinsic cannot automatically update the development environment. Earlier versions are unsupported. To manually update to the latest version, see the update development environment section.
